started in 1894, by an enterprising young man from Back East, named
Elbridge Seth Fenton, the dairy maker delivered his product by
horse-drawn wagon. From the large metal cans that rattled noisily
behind him, he poured his prize-winning milk into the small bottles
held by his customers. Historical continuity at Fentons seemed to be
assured by the fact that Elbridge left behind thirteen children – all
of them ice cream lovers! When the Creamery did pass out of the hands
of Fenton family, it actually came back through the wife of the new
owner, Bill Morrison – Virginia Fenton!
1961, the Creamery moved from its home of 65 years, on 41st and Howe
Streets, to its present site on Piedmont Avenue, but little else has
changed. The present owner, Scott Whidden, like the first, Elbridge
Fenton, is an enterprising young man with an ageless idea. Keeping the
tradition going and the product fresh has always been the motto at
Fentons, and putting a smile on our customers’ faces has always been
our goal.
